Torino Territorial unit
The Torino Territorial unit of ISPA is located at the Department of Veterinary Science of the University of Turin, Grugliasco (Torino). Permanent staff consists of: 7 researchers, 1 technical aid, 1 administrative staff. The unit regularly hosts PhD and post doc students.
The unit carries out two main research lines, the first one aimed at improving the nutritional quality of feed and animal origin foods (milk, meat and fish) and at achieving safer products by monitoring and removing potentially toxic components. The second research line deals with the assessment of the protein quality of food through the application of Proteomic techniques (2D, Mass spectrometry on protein and peptides, characterization of protein post-translational modifications), including discovery and characterization of food allergens.
The unit of Torino is partner in the Metrological Infrastructure for Food Safety (IMPreSA), located at the Italian National Institute of Metrology (INRiM) (https://www.inrim.it/it/ricerca/infrastrutture/infrastruttura-metrologica-la-sicurezza-alimentare-impresa), that is equipped with the following facilities: NMR Spectrometer (NMR 600 MHz), High resolution Mass Spectrometer coupled to HPLC (HPLC-HRMS) ‐ Ion Trap Orbitrap; Single‐Particle Inductively Coupled Plasma – Mass Spectrometry (SP‐ICP‐MS); Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry (GC/EA ‐IRMS).
